With the warm days of spring upon us, it makes me think of summer! Many of our students are thinking the same thing! Can you believe we only have a little less than 8 weeks until the end of this school year? Where has the time gone?
When I think of summer, I always think about what our students are doing when they are not in school for the summer. Are they reading? Are they writing? Are they being productive and learning?
Did you know that some students start school way behind others? Then in the summer, if they are not reading or learning, they start the next school year even further behind. By the third grade, they could be as much as two years behind their peers!
That is why this year, we are doing something different with summer reading programs. We are partnering with our summer feeding sites to get our students to read during that time. We held an organizational meeting today with area pastors, church leaders and feeding site managers to get started with organizing for volunteers, books and activities.
Please stay tuned for an announcement on our Facebook page and website about the Summer Read-Feed-Succeed kickoff for Chester County Schools!
By the way, if you are looking for a few writing prompts for your student this summer, try these out!
1. Have you ever lost something that was very important to you? How did you feel when you realized the item was gone? Did you ever find it again?
2. What makes you happier than anything else? What do you love about it?
3. What world record would you be most likely to hold? Why?
Make it a great week!
