A Message from Dr. Sutton

July 6, 2020

On July 1, 2020, I had the honor and privilege of becoming the new Superintendent of Chester County School District. CCSD will continue to strive for academic excellence, personalized learning opportunities, and family and community support. It is my hope to not only continue these traditions, but to collaboratively build on them.

It is my core belief that all students must have the best educational opportunities available, to prepare them for life’s challenges and rewards that extend well beyond the classroom walls. How we educate today is far different from that of years ago – or even five years ago. Increased academic rigor, modern technology, global competition, whole child centered curriculum, and personalization are some of the things shaping teaching and learning today. I have always found that challenges such as these are really opportunities to transform our students’ educational work into inspiring and relevant lifelong experiences.

This summer, I was able to spend time in the District on numerous occasions to begin my “Listen and Learn” series. I met with staff, some parents and town officials, which reinforced my belief that I chose a great school district and supportive communities to become a member of. I look forward to establishing strong and collegial relationships, so that together we can provide all students of Chester County Schools access to incredible learning environments.

It is essential that parents and community members be well informed of the successes and challenges of CCSD. One of my goals is to improve communication throughout the District using many different methods to ensure the needs of all are met, and all stakeholders feel informed. The District website will be updated frequently to provide an area for the Superintendent’s message.

I would also like to thank you for your support and understanding as we, as a nation and community, continue to respond to the unexpected invasion of COVID-19. I am very proud of the way our CCSD students, parents, employees, and community leaders handled the demands we were faced with to protect everyone as we continued to educate and feed our students during the most unusual of circumstances. As you know, there continues to be concerns and questions related to how schools plan to reopen in August 2020. While we are in the business of educating, our first priority is the safety of our students and our employees. Be assured, we have been working diligently on our AccelerateCCSD 2020-2021 Reopening Plans.

In closing, I realize I am transitioning during one of the most challenging times not only in education but in our country's history. We continue to experience a pandemic that brings many unanswered questions as to what life will be like in the coming months. Now more than ever our close-knit community needs to work together in overcoming these challenges. I look forward to our work together as we lead our district into the future.

I am excited to meet the students of CCSD, and to hear their thoughts and ideas while learning what they are passionate about so that CCSD can provide the best education possible for their future. I look forward to seeing and speaking with you in the schools and communities. Enjoy the remaining weeks of the summer!
